I want to describe a time when I made an important decision that turned out really well for me. Two years ago, I decided to sign up for my first half marathon. At that point, I barely had any running experience and could only manage two or three kilometers. I was also really busy with my job as a UI Designer in Shanghai, often working late hours. Many of my friends thought I wouldn't stick with it.
The first week of training was tough. I remember gasping for breath after just three kilometers, and the next day, my legs were so sore that climbing stairs felt like a challenge. There were nights when I got off work after nine and thought about skipping my run. But then I'd remember my commitment to the race, so I'd lace up my shoes and head to a nearby park.
As I followed my training plan, I tracked my progress on my phone. Slowly but surely, my stamina improved. By race day, I was excited but nervous. The atmosphere at the venue was electric, with so many participants and cheering spectators.
Around the fifteen-kilometer mark, I felt like giving up. My legs were heavy, and I was struggling to breathe. But then I saw the crowd cheering me on. It hit me that I had put in months of effort, and I couldn't let it go to waste. So, I focused on reaching the next aid station.
In the end, I completed the 21 kilometers in just over two hours. Crossing that finish line felt amazing! This experience taught me that persistence is key. Since then, I've approached challenges in my life and work with more patience, knowing that progress takes time.
