The main reason is that we're constantly bombarded with messages and notifications, which makes it easy to overlook some conversations unintentionally. For example, as a UI designer in Shanghai, I often get dozens of work messages daily through different apps - sometimes important personal texts from friends get buried under work chats. That being said, I still think it's important to respond when possible, like my math teacher Mr. Wang eventually did when he was less busy. Technology gives us excuses, but basic courtesy shouldn't disappear.
