I think parents should definitely guide their children's viewing choices, especially when they're young. The main reason is that kids can easily stumble upon inappropriate content these days - even on platforms meant for children, like YouTube Kids. I've seen my cousin's 8-year-old watching these bizarre unboxing videos that seem harmless at first, but then suddenly switch to violent or strange content. At the same time, I don't think parents should control everything - as children grow older, they need to learn to make their own choices. In Shanghai, many parents I know use parental controls on iPads but also discuss with their kids why certain shows are better than others, which seems like a balanced approach.
