I'd say fewer people read local newspapers now compared to before, especially among younger generations in Shanghai. The main reason is that news apps and social media provide updates much faster and more conveniently. For example, I used to see my parents reading the Hangzhou Daily every morning, but now even they check news on their phones first. That said, some older residents still prefer newspapers because they find them more trustworthy for local community news, like the recent opening of that new eco-park I mentioned earlier. The shift to digital means people get information instantly, but perhaps miss some deeper local reporting.
