I'd say it's absolutely crucial for environmental campaigners to understand science-otherwise, their arguments lack credibility. If they can't explain the actual impact of, say, air pollution or deforestation with solid facts, people won't take them seriously. I remember reading about a campaign in Shanghai to reduce plastic waste-the organizers used clear data on how long plastic takes to decompose, and that really made residents rethink their habits. Of course, communication skills matter too-you need to translate those complex ideas simply-but the science has to be the foundation. Without it, you're just sharing opinions, not driving real change.
