I'd say population growth will definitely be a major challenge for farming, but perhaps not the most significant one. The real issue is how we manage resources - like the water shortages we've seen in parts of China where farmland competes with growing cities. For example, near Hangzhou where I'm from, some farmers have had to switch crops because of water restrictions. That being said, technology and better farming methods could help balance things out - like the vertical farms I've read about that use less land and water. So it's more about smart adaptation than just the number of mouths to feed.
