Part 3a time when you changed your opinion about something important

Are there situations when people should not give their real opinions?

Band 7.5 sample answer

Yes, there are definitely situations where holding back your true opinion is wiser. The main reason is that honesty can sometimes damage relationships or create unnecessary tension. For example, at work in Shanghai, if a colleague shows me a design I don't like, I might soften my feedback rather than bluntly saying it's bad-because maintaining a good working atmosphere matters more than being brutally honest. That said, I still believe in being genuine when it truly affects the outcome. It's about balancing honesty with consideration for others' feelings.
