Part 3a time when you couldn't use your phone

Is it important to have rules about using phones?

Band 7.5 sample answer

Yes, I think basic phone rules are necessary, especially in shared spaces. The main issue is that constant phone use can really disrupt face-to-face interactions. For example, in Shanghai's coffee shops, I often see groups sitting together but everyone's just scrolling silently-it completely kills the atmosphere. Even at work, my design team has a no-phones rule during brainstorming sessions because distractions ruin creativity. That said, strict bans aren't practical-people need their devices for emergencies or quick checks. The key is finding a balance between staying connected and being present.
