Part 3a person you know about who encourages people to look after the natural world (e.g. plants, animals, insects and so on)

Which is more effective when someone is campaigning to protect the natural world: raising people's awareness or leading by example, such as by avoiding flying?

Band 7.5 sample answer

I'd say leading by example is more effective because actions speak louder than words. When people see someone actually making changes in their own life, it feels more convincing and relatable. For instance, in Shanghai, I've noticed more people cycling or taking public transport instead of driving, especially during peak pollution days. It's not just about avoiding flying or using less plastic-it's about showing that sustainable choices are doable in everyday life. That said, raising awareness is still important because not everyone understands the impact of their actions. But I think combining both-leading by example while explaining why it matters-creates a stronger impact.
