It's more realistic to view it as one of several contributors, because problems like waste, industrial emissions, and deforestation also play significant roles. For example, in Shanghai, I've noticed how much cleaner the air feels when factories reduce operations during public holidays, even though traffic remains heavy. That said, vehicles do have a noticeable impact, especially in densely populated areas where exhaust fumes build up quickly. Compared with rural areas, cities like Shanghai face a double challenge: managing both industrial and vehicle emissions. So, while reducing car usage helps, addressing multiple sources is key to making lasting progress.
