I'd say teachers are definitely underappreciated nowadays, and that's largely because people focus too much on immediate results rather than the long-term impact of education. For example, my high school math teacher Mr. Wang spent extra hours helping struggling students like me, but parents would only care about exam scores rather than the effort behind them. At the same time, with so many online learning options now, some people assume teaching is just about delivering information, ignoring how teachers actually inspire and guide students personally. That said, in Shanghai I do see more young parents starting to value good teachers, especially after experiencing remote learning during the pandemic.
