One job that really stands out for me is being a video editor. About a year ago, I decided to learn video editing because I wanted to share my knowledge online. Living in Shanghai, I noticed that many people prefer learning through videos rather than reading long articles, and I thought, why not create some high-quality videos myself?
At first, I was completely lost. I remember downloading the editing software and not having a clue how to navigate the timeline or add transitions. My very first attempt took almost five hours for just a two-minute video, and honestly, it was pretty average. The transitions were awkward, the background music overpowered everything, and there were several mistakes in the subtitles.
Determined to get better, I committed an hour every evening to practice. I watched countless tutorials and tried to mimic techniques from skilled creators. I quickly realized that making a good video isn't just about editing; planning the content is crucial. So, I started scripting my videos, which really helped everything flow better.
After a couple of months, I was creating videos much more efficiently, and the quality improved significantly. Now, this skill has become really practical for my work as a UI Designer. I can create engaging learning materials and explain complex ideas through visuals, which has been incredibly rewarding.
Looking back, this experience taught me that mastering a new skill is more about consistent practice than inherent talent. It gave me the confidence to tackle new challenges, and I genuinely enjoy the creative process of video editing.
