How can a sense of national identity be developed?

I'd say schools play a crucial role in developing national identity through local history education. When students learn about their city's past in a tangible way, it creates a deeper connection than just abstract national concepts. For example, in Hangzhou where I grew up, our history teacher took us to walk along the West Lake while explaining its cultural significance through stories about ancient poets and emperors. That hands-on experience made me appreciate our heritage much more than just reading textbooks. Of course, this shouldn't exclude learning about other cultures - balance is key. But starting with what's physically around students makes national identity feel personal rather than forced.
