I think friends are often better for advice on work or social situations where you need an outside perspective. Family can be too emotionally involved sometimes, whereas friends in similar fields can give more objective suggestions. Like when I advised my colleague about workload management last year - because we both work in design, I could share practical methods that actually fit our industry. That said, for big life decisions, I'd still turn to family first since they know me more deeply.
