Do scientists need to use their imagination in their work?

Absolutely, scientists definitely need imagination in their work. The main reason is that breakthroughs often come from connecting ideas in unexpected ways. Like in my UI design work, sometimes the best solutions appear when you step back and imagine the problem differently. I remember reading about a scientist who visualized molecular structures like train stations - that creative approach led to new discoveries. Of course, they still need rigorous testing, but that initial spark often comes from imagination. It's similar to how I had to visualize my running progress during marathon training - seeing the goal differently made it achievable.
