Well, I'd say the main reason people wake up early is to align with societal schedules-you know, work hours, school timings, public transport schedules. In Shanghai for example, if you don't leave home by 7:30, the metro gets unbearably crowded. That's why even as a UI designer with flexible hours, I sometimes adjust my routine to avoid the worst rush. The trade-off is clear-lose some sleep but gain productivity when the city's still quiet. That said, I think younger generations are pushing back against this more, choosing remote work or later starts when possible.
