I'd say ambition alone doesn't guarantee success at work - ability and adaptability matter just as much. In my experience as a UI designer in Shanghai, I've seen colleagues with big ideas struggle because they couldn't adjust to client feedback or learn new design tools. Like when I was learning video editing, the ambition to create good content wasn't enough - I had to put in consistent practice to actually improve. That said, ambition does give you the drive to push through those learning curves. The real success comes when you combine that drive with the willingness to develop practical skills.
