Should medical discoveries always be shared worldwide for free?

I believe medical discoveries should be shared globally, but not necessarily for free. The reason is that research requires massive funding and resources, so companies need some financial return to keep innovating. For example, during the pandemic, we saw how vaccine patents became a heated debate - some argued for open sharing while others pointed out the years of investment behind them. That said, there should be mechanisms to make essential treatments accessible to poorer countries at lower costs. It's about finding a balance between encouraging innovation and serving public health needs.
