In China, having pets is quite popular now, especially in cities like Shanghai where I live. I'd say it's partly because people are more focused on companionship and emotional support in fast-paced urban lifestyles. For example, many of my colleagues who live alone have cats or dogs, and they often share photos of their pets during lunch breaks. It's become a common way to relieve stress and add warmth to daily life. That said, it's not always easy-space is limited in apartments, and some older generations still view pets as unnecessary. But overall, I think the trend is growing, particularly among younger people who see pets as part of their family.
