I'd say the most reliable way is to check reviews from real travelers rather than just looking at promotional materials. The main reason is that people tend to be honest about their experiences, especially when they've had negative ones. For example, before my trip to Jiuzhaigou, I spent hours reading traveler blogs and forum discussions - that's how I learned about the long bus ride from Chengdu and packed accordingly. That said, you do need to read between the lines sometimes, as some reviews might be overly critical about minor issues. But overall, I find this method much more trustworthy than glossy travel brochures.
