I'd say people can be persuaded to believe many things, especially when the message comes from someone they trust. The main reason is that we naturally rely on authority figures or close relationships for guidance. For example, my high school math teacher Mr. Wang convinced our whole class that even students who struggled could improve dramatically with consistent practice - and we all believed him because of his experience. That said, there are limits - people won't believe things that completely contradict their core values or direct experience. In Shanghai, I've noticed younger generations are especially skeptical of claims that don't match what they see online or in their daily lives.
