Part 3a time when you couldn't use your phone

Do you agree or disagree that social rules were more strict in the past than they are today?

バンド7.5 模範解答

I'd say social rules were definitely stricter in the past, especially in China. Back then, people placed a lot of emphasis on formalities, like how you addressed elders or behaved in public. For example, in Hangzhou, where I grew up, it was almost unthinkable to question elders openly-it was seen as disrespectful. Nowadays, especially in cities like Shanghai, things are much more relaxed. People focus more on individuality and expressing their opinions. That said, I think some of those older rules helped maintain a sense of respect and order, which can sometimes feel lacking today. It's a balance-modern flexibility is good, but some traditional values still have their place.
