Well, I think society would become quite disconnected from important issues if people only watched entertainment. The main reason is that news helps us understand what's happening around us - like policy changes or social problems. For example, in Shanghai where I live, many young colleagues at my design company only watch funny short videos during lunch breaks. They often miss local announcements about subway line extensions or recycling rules. That being said, I do understand why people prefer entertainment - after a long workday, cooking shows like the one I mentioned are much more relaxing than serious news. But there should be a balance.
