I think the impacts of boredom should be discussed more, but mainly in relation to how we design public spaces and experiences. The main reason is that poorly designed environments can actually create unnecessary boredom, like what I felt at the Shanghai Museum - too much passive observation without enough interaction. In my work as a UI designer, we constantly think about engagement, because when digital interfaces feel monotonous, people just swipe away. The same principle applies to physical spaces. That said, some boredom might be healthy - it pushes people to seek more meaningful activities rather than just consuming content mindlessly.
